Just FYI, my grandmother drank the most disgusting, vile whiskey ever. Man I want a glass of bourbon.

We built a house at work today. It was the most kick-ass thing ever. Well, aside from the fact that I was the only person on my team who knew how to hammer a nail. That was just sad. There was one lady who said she helped her husband build their house, but her nails kept getting mangled and bent and she took about 50 hits to drive one nail, whereas I can drive in a nail with five. But oh well, our team still did four or five wall panels, and since two of them were outside walls with window headers and everything, that's pretty darn cool.

I just spent like an hour deleting photos at Photobucket, since they just dropped their limits and wouldn't let me upload any new ones (like of Habitat) until I deleted a bunch. If something's missing that you really want to see again, let me know.

I cannot breathe. Yesterday was spent in the grips of an allergy attack that made me utterly miserable. Today I am so freaking congested I feel like my head exploding would be a relief.

I'm starting to suspect I have a summer cold instead of allergies.

Benadryl was only mildly helpful last night, so tonight I'm going to try treating it with whiskey. We'll see how that goes.

I need to wash dishes and go through some more stuff. The church is having a yard sale at the end of the month to help fund the fall mission trip to Haiti, and I have three boxes of stuff to donate to that, but I'm sure there's a LOT more stuff I could get rid of.

For that matter, I may have to wrestle with my conscious about the guitar. It's probably worth about $150 or $200, but I could use it to pay off some bills... or I could use it to help clothe a schoolkid in Haiti. *sigh* We'll see about that.

Went to see HBP finally. I was underwhelmed with much of it, even though I found it enjoyable. It's odd how utterly apathetic I feel about that fandom now that I know how the story ends. And it's strange. I never read dueSouth fanfic until the canon was closed. I never read Dark is Rising fanfic until the canon was closed. Is it that I was active in the HP fandom while canon was still being developed? Is it that I still feel the last book was rushed and that there were some deep flaws? Or what?

Even though the weather has been gorgeous all day and there's been no wind, we had a random power outage for several hours today. Which wouldn't have been a problem except that I was planning to finish betaing a fic today and getting edits made to the original novel today, and maybe ordering some photos online to be printed. Not to mention the fact that the toilet only flushes once in a power outage. Yippee.

But I did get a lot of cleaning done, and I did some strength training with my little hand weights, sealed the seams on the tent, and walked a mile with Mom.

This following a five-mile hike yesterday at Shades. But I figured since I was sore as all get-out from the hike, I might as well build on that and start getting in shape again. Go me.

Am in a crappy mood tonight though, so I imagine I'll be signing off early.

Got my [info]bau_bigbang solo-written fic submitted tonight. It's done, the fabulous [info]resolucidity gave it the thumbs-up as far as not sucking, and I even titled it, hopefully well. *G*

Got it first-drafted and submitted as well, though we have three scenes that need moderate revision.

I've officially passed the word count, though the story itself isn't finished. Just wrapped up the case, but the pairing isn't totally cemented yet. My word count was helped tonight by sprints with [info]severity_softly, as well as the fact that the internet was out for about an hour and a half for some reason.

Getting close! I have some final scenes to write, but the climax is finished, and I'm actually pretty happy with the way I figured out the resolution. Of course, I haven't done my printed copy read-through yet, so we'll see what I think of it once I've read the whole thing as a whole. I went back today and filled in a lot of stuff that I realized last night I needed, so I did a backwards, disjointed sort of writing.

Anyway.

I tried cooked radishes for the first time yesterday. They were delicious. I usually just eat them raw, but we have a LOT of them, so we thought we'd try something new.

( TMI. Really. )

C comes back to work tomorrow after a week off. Thank God.

Played a bit of Warcraft this afternoon. Had fun.

Mom is applying for a job, and I also spent some time fighting with my computer and hers, trying to solve file compatability issues so I could use my laser printer instead of their ink-jet to print her resume and such.

That's really just about it. Sunday nights always make me stupidly depressed. Someday I will have a job I love to get up for. Like...writing. >.>

In other news, I stopped at the nearest liquor store to see if they had bourbon. I don't usually stop there, because the guy is on the sex offender registry and frankly creeps me out a little, not to mention they used to have porn DVDs right on the counter by the cash register. But this time I was still waffling when I went through D'ton, so I didn't stop at the D'ton liquor store, and I didn't want to go all the way to T'town. So I stopped in C, and asked what they had in the way of bourbon. And the guy offered me Jim Beam and Jack Daniels. I don't like Jim Beam, and Jack is Tennessee whiskey, NOT bourbon. *snort* So I'll have to make do without.

What a fun life I lead

So when we were almost home I got a text message from Mom with a picture:

What may not be immediately apparent in looking at the picture (as it wasn't to me at the time), the garter snake is caught in the netting that we have over the strawberry patch to keep the birds from eating them. And when I say caught, I mean he was caught but good. Two places he'd made it through, then expanded and had the netting dug into his scales. At one of the spots I think it had cut him. So the moment I got home, I had to pull out the pocket knife and use it to cut him free of the netting. Fortunately I'm pretty sure I managed to cut the netting without cutting him. He was very calm the whole time I was handling him, like he realized I was trying to help. The moment he realized he was free, he slithered away...directly into the strawberry patch where my snake-fearing aunt was supposed to pick tonight. I wasn't fast enough to stop him because I didn't want to hurt him worse.

When I got in the door, I discovered that my cat had jumped the screen that usually blocks his room, and then gotten trapped outside his room with food, water, and litter. So there was cat poop on the living room floor. As soon as Dad came into the house, Merlin started rubbing up against him, then bit him savagely and wouldn't let go. So Dad was bruised and bloody, and Merlin got himself a kick. Merlin was pretty unhappy but I gave him quite a talking to about his behavior. It took years, but I finally became the dominant of our little two-animal 'pack'...but Merlin obviously considers Dad to be a lesser pack member. So I spent some time cleaning up that mess, and then devising a gate that he can't jump.

I am exhausted, and it's not bedtime yet. :P

In other news, I did some cleaning inside and some mowing and weeding outside today. Had to fight off the mosquitos big time. I'm just hoping I didn't get in the poison ivy while I was weeding. Mom and Dad have been trying to wrangle the blackberry patch into submission. They both look like they lost the war today. I'm lucky; since I'm afraid of spiders and have grown to rather dislike blackberries, I've been spared that part of the work. [info]severity_softly, I'll have more jelly for you in a few weeks! Though it'll be last year's jelly. This year, we're not sure we'll have enough for jelly, just because they're being ruthless in their hack-and-slash campaign.

It's impossible to start a U-Pick blackberry business if U can't Pick because you're not double-jointed or two feet tall.

Fanmix help

So I am 99% finished with a David Rossi fanmix...but I have this problematic song.

It's called "Ruby Ridge" by Johnny Philko, and we all know Rossi was calling the shots at Ruby Ridge. This is the sort of song that Rossi would fucking hate, but at the same time he would probably listen to it over and over to torture himself. (Come on, we've seen him with that darn bracelet!)

The problem is threefold: I hate 99% of all war protest songs, the guy's voice fluctuates between annoying-as-hell and oddly-interesting, and the song itself isn't really the best (despite being somewhat catchy in a very annoying sort of way).

So...What do I do with this song?

I made this icon when I realized that there are very few ships in Criminal Minds that I don't like. Emily's expression in the one frame is as much to illustrate my own feeling as anything. "What the heck, might as well ship everyone." :D [info]tabiji was good enough to downsize the animation for me so it would fit within LJ's file size requirements.

I liked using my April 2009 desktop wallpaper so much (even if I kept tweaking it) that I made myself an May 2009 desktop wallpaper, and thought I might as well share it with y'all.

I made it for my monitor, which is set to 1024x768, and I am running Vista with the sidebar on the right. If I get requests I can try to figure out how to resize it properly. LOL Or you're welcome to do that yourself if you know how.

So I get back from vacation and suddenly I see you all mentioning Dreamwidth. Why is everyone wanting a new blogging site? And why do I, the inveterate I-hate-things-that-everyone-else-loves person, want one too? Just how much did I miss while I was gone for, like, five days?

In Vegas news, I danced and drank a lot, walked a lot, didn't eat enough, went to my first gay club, saw the tallest concrete dam in the US, LOVED Phantom, and came out ahead in gambling because I won $26 (which tells you just how much I gambled).

Hanging out with [info]astraea36 and her husband and friends was SO much fun! Except that, as you all know, I was very wibbly when they started boarding her flight. :( Clearly we're going to have to plan to get together again soon.

The worst part, I think, besides having blisters on my feet and my ankle spending much of the trip protesting at home much walking we were doing, was the redeye home. I wasn't expecting it to be crowded, for some reason. I mean, a 10:30 flight on Monday night. *sigh* But the dude next to me snored like a really loud snoring thing, and despite having his freakin' wife on the other side of me, he kept pushing in on my space while sleeping. And the guy behind me kept nudging my seat. I finally laid my seat back just to piss him off. Then I realized it was very comfy that way, so I stayed that way. I did get some sleep, but I ended up crashing some time between 8 and 9 this morning as I was trying to read a fic we have to post. Got up again between 1 and 2, so hopefully I'll still be able to sleep tonight.

[info]darkhawkhealer, as soon as I get my computer to register my media card, I will upload some skyline pics for you. I hope they turned out well. :D And I'll be posting general trip pictures later. [info]astraea36 made me promise not to post any pictures that I think are atrocious. Of course, my opinion of atrocious is different from hers, since I think she is beautiful.

I really don't want to go back to work tomorrow.
